Wagon R with upgraded engine will be launched in India by Maruti Suzuki by April end. The company has spent about Rs. 290 crores for updating the new model and to make it compatible with the new fuel emission norms. It will feature the K10B engine which will be fully compliant with the new Bharat Stage IV norms.
“This (new Wagon R) is not a minor change, but a full model change. So, lot of investment have gone for it. We have invested about Rs 290 crore for upgrading the model,” said Maruti Suzuki India Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Mayank Pareek. He also stated further that the Wagon R model is currently available as Duo and the new variant will be petrol only. Any LPG model or CNG model is not on card as of now. The company will decide new variants depending upon the customer response from the market.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited has sold about 8.5 lakh units of WagonR since its launch in the Indian market. Currently, it sells about 10,000- 12,000 units per month where Duo consists of 20 percent of its sales.
