The much hyped car from Tata is going to be closed soon. The company stopped fresh bookings for the Nano last year after accepting one lakh orders. So far it has delivered about 35,000 cars, built at its Pantnagar facility, since July last.

Tata nano, Nano

Today, as Ratan Tata’s men work round the clock at Sanand, 30 km from Ahmedabad, to fulfill the Tata Motors chairman’s dream of making a car affordable for the lower middleclass freely available, the initial euphoria that the Nano generated with its pricing and design seems gone. “We will need to build the interest back through renewed advertising and promotions,” says a company official, requesting anonymity.

Tata Motors believes the inauguration of the mother plant at Sanand on June 2 will be the first step in recreating the Nano magic because, with a capacity to roll out 2.5 lakh cars a year, it will put the car’s delivery on track.

A company spokesman said the first 1,00,000 allottees are price-protected, but refused to comment on keeping the price tag when the booking reopens. “Tata Motors does not comment on pricing,” he says.
