Chevrolet is going to hit Paris Auto Show very strongly with introduction of four new car models. And one of them is 2012 Chevrolet Aveo Hatchback model based on Aveo RS Concept shown earlier this year in Detroit and Geneva motor shows.
Visual highlights of the new Aveo include exposed twin-headlamps and dual port grille, compact taut body panels with a rising shoulder line and short rear overhangs, as well as ‘hidden’ rear door handles. The new Aveo is also longer and wider than the current model, and features ESC and ABS brakes as standard.
Inside, the most striking feature is a motorcycle-inspired instrument cluster which features an analogue tachometer combined with a digital speedo and warning lights. “Up-market blue backlighting features on the centre console while the whole of the front cabin is enveloped in a wrap-round fascia,” Chevrolet says.
“It’s just such an exciting time to be at Chevrolet; not only do we have new entries into the MPV and compact classes, in Aveo we have a car which is ready to compete against the best in the small car segment, which is also Europe’s largest segment,” stated Wayne Brannon, president and managing director of Chevrolet Europe.
Depending on the market, the Chevrolet Aveo hatchback will offer buyers a choice of both gasoline and diesel engines. The European menu will include 1.2-liter (70 and 86 hp), 1.4-liter (100 hp) and 1.6-liter (115 hp) gasoline motivators as well as a 1.3-liter (75 and 95 hp) oil burner. However, only the two larger-displacement gasoline engines are likely to make it here, both backed by either a standard six-speed manual transmission or optional six-speed autoshifter. Although Chevrolet has yet to confirm a production version of the slick Aveo RS, it seems a natural extension of the line. If/when that happens, it would likely arrive with the same 138-hp/1.4-liter turbocharged Ecotec four that was fitted to the concept car and also is found under the hood of the new 2011 Chevrolet Cruze.
The car is going to sell in US and European markets very soon. When will Indian customer get the chance to own this one, that is the question.
