With new car launches grabbing all the eyeballs in the country’s media, India’s two wheeler market was cold for some time now. But, with Diwali season coming up, it is going to be busy days for two wheeler making companies. And who else but Hero Honda, the country’s largest two wheeler manufacturer has taken the lead in creating this buzz by launching its next generation version of best selling Splendor Pro.
“With the all-new Splendor Pro, we have brought in a fresh round of excitement to our customers. We are confident that Splendor Pro will further augment our growth in the deluxe segment,” Hero Honda Motors Ltd Senior Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) Anil Dua said. The new model is priced at Rs. 39,950 and Rs. 41,950 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Hero Honda has relaunched the 16-year-old Splendor model on numerous occasions in the past. So it has three avatars — Splendor plus, NXG and Pro. Though the changes remain cosmetic, a slightly more powerful engine, enhanced fuel economy, improved headlight and battery and a R800 increase in price are some of them, it is the timing of the launch that merits attention.
“We are confident that Splendor Pro will further augment our growth in the deluxe segment. Plus, we have lined up a few more exciting launches in the run-up to the festive season,’ said Anil Dua.
Hero Honda’s marketshare has been under pressure since the beginning of this fiscal with arch rival Bajaj Auto eating into its share. Its hold over the bread and butter 100cc segment, that accounts for 73 per cent of total motorcycle sales, has slid from 82 per cent last year to under 70 per cent this year. Bajaj’s Discover, which was launched in a 100cc category recently has been the main beneficiary.
