The only question is will this affect its 1 lakh price tag? Tata Motors, one of India’s largest and cheapest car maker, is considering to increase the engine capacity of its small wonder Nano. The car currently comes with 600-cc engine and the company wants to increase it upto 1000-cc and more. Tata Motors is already set to launch the new variant of Nano petrol with diesel variant coming soon in the market.
The company has not decided on when to launch the two engine variants or what should be the price tag for Nano. But, it has already started working on the two new engine variants for the car. As per industry sources, it is a part of the company’s strategy to gain profit from Tata Nano brand across segments. This move of the company will help Tata Motors redefine its focus on the car segment, added the source.
A company executive was quoted saying that presently, Tata Nano is available with a 600-cc engine. By equipping a 1-litre engine, the model will get a brand makeover. He further added that as a product, the Nano would evolve slowly over the years. Nano has become quite a powerful brand. On the other hand, Tata Motors is concentrating on more penetration into the car market. A spokesperson of the company said that Tata Motors is developing a two-cylinder diesel engine for the Tata Nano. The company will take its time for developing and refining the engine to its content. That is why, it would be premature to tell the details like time frame, pricing etc, added the spokesperson.
