Following the success of Nissan’s first locally made car- the Nissan Micra, the Japanese auto maker are getting ready for the second car to be produced in India, The sedan codenamed Sunny will be based on Nissan’s much popular V-Platform which is also used in Nissan Micra hatchback. Though the car will be officially launched at the eighth China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition, scheduled to be held in December, some Chinese websites have already leaked its pictures on web.
According to the industry sources, we’re told that the Nissan Sunny will come with two variants of a 1.6-liter petrol engine and a 1.5-liter diesel engine. Tracking the development of the Micra, we don’t expect aggression on the pricing front for the V-Platform sedan whose name in India is still undecided. It could be in the range of the Honda City/VW Vento. For about 10 lakh rupees, one expects to drive home the diesel model with all the bells and whistles.
The car will initially available in China only. It will come to Indian roads in the second half of 2011. It is going to face some competition from the Verna RB, Volkswagen Vento 1.4 and all new Ford Fiesta at that time.
