GM’s Baojun 630 Launched In China, May Come To India Soon

General Motors has launched a new sedan called Baojun 630 in China in association with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) and Wuling. Baojun means “treasured horse” and the brand’s logo does have a horse head. This incredibly frugal tasteful compact sedan looks to go on sale sometime in the first half of 2011 in the Chinese market.

SAIC holds a 50 percent stake in GM India and there are strong expectations that SAIC will bring its products and sell it under the Chevrolet brand or an all new brand with the help of GM India.  The Chevrolet Aveo sedan, GM’s only entry in the C sedan market, is not registering any exciting sales figures, lately. Despite of heavy celebrity marketing, the Aveo never really caught the Indian customer’s eye. So, there is more chances of GM launching Baojun 630 in India very soon.

Baojun brand is created after General Motors (GM), Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) and Wuling joined hands together to produce cars in China. Baojun’s first product is the 630 sedan which will be sold from 2011 onwards. The Baojun brand is aimed at secondary cities and the outskirts while GM’s own Chevrolet brand will cater to the needs of customers in major cities like Shanghai and Beijing. As most of them will be first time car buyers, Baojun plans to attractively price the car. Baojun may price the Chevrolet Cruze-sized car as low as $7000.
