Renault Launches Renaul Sport F1 Division

French automaker Renault announced the creation of Renault Sport F1, the sport division of Renault in Formula 1 as an engine manufacturer and supplier of technology. The creation of Renault Sport F1 is following Renault’s decision to sell its minority stakes in Genii Capital and Renault F1 Team. Genii and Capital Group Lotus plc announced today the creation of Lotus Renault GP, successor of Renault F1 Team. The division will supply engine to Lotus Renault GP, Red Bull Racing and 1 Malaysia Racing Team.

- Renault Announces Renault Sport F1, the sports division will be responsible for the commitment of Renault in Formula 1 as an engine manufacturer and supplier of technology for 2011 and subsequent years. Renault Sport F1 will provide three teams in 2011, representing 25% of the plateau.

- In addition to the supply of engines, Renault Sport F1 lead with its partners advanced research and engineering programs in areas such as transmission systems and kinetic energy recovery (KERS).

- This division will provide the technological answer to the challenge of new regulations on engines. It will be a laboratory to develop technologies more environmentally friendly, both thermal and applicable than electric vehicles.

- Renault Sport F1 concentrate its activities in Viry-Chatillon, the technical basis of historic F1 Renault. Its chairman is Bernard Rey, a member of the Renault Management Committee.

- The creation of Renault Sport F1 following Renault’s decision to sell its minority stakes Genii Capital in Renault F1 Team. Renault will continue to provide strong support to the Enstone team as a supplier of engines and technological expertise and engineering.

- Renault is based on 29 seasons of commitment to F1, crowned with 9 league titles from the world of manufacturers, including the latest with Team Red Bull Racing in 2010. Renault engines have finished on the podium 23 times in 2010, including an historic treble in the Grand Prix of Monaco and won 3 of the last six world championships.
