U.S. automobile giant General Motors today announced that it has made a lot of mistakes regarding company’s strategy in India. The company will now focus on developing cars that will suit country’s customers very well. Launch of ‘Smartech’ engine in India is part of company’s new strategy. The new engine is locally developed to meet country’s hard-to-please customers.
The 1.2-litre petrol engine has been developed at the General Motors India’s technical at Bangalore. It will be manufactured at the company’s plant at Talegaon in Maharashtra. The new ‘Smartech’ engine features aluminium cylinder heads, lightweight pistons which decrease weight and enhance fuel emissions and lightweight counterbalanced crankshaft. The lightweight counterbalanced crankshafts will greatly lower the NVH Levels.
“India is a key market for General Motors. We are focused on leveraging our unmatched global resources as well as our growing local capabilities to develop segment leading vehicles and power trains in India for India,” General Motors International Operations President Tim Lee said. In addition, GM revealed its plan to launch 6 new vehicles this year with the new powertrain.
At present General Motors plans to install the new engine in its car models which it will offer in the domestic car market.
