The automatic transmission version of world’s cheapest car Tata Nano will be introduced by end of 2011, according to some sources. We already know that Tata Motors is going to launch Nano Diesel in the month of September 2011. The company is very optimistic about Nano after it recorded fantastic sales figure for December 2010.

Tata Motors has tied-up with a Canada based company to make CVT transmission (Continuously Variable Transmission) variant of the Tata Nano. The work on this project is going on since two years now. The company has already invested a huge sum in this project and is in the process of signing a deal for supply of parts for the gearless Nano with C-Tech, a Montreal-based auto component maker.

A Continuously Variable Transmission is an automatic gearbox with infinite gear ratios that uses the help of either wheels, cones or a belt to create these infinite gear ratios. The end result is an engine that can run as efficiently as possible no matter at what rev range you are driving in. This will also convert to better mileage and a smoother driving experience than a normal automatic transmission.
