There were quite a rumours about launch date of new 2011 Toyota Corolla Altis in India. But, according to CarIndia, Toyota is planning to launch a face-lifted Altis with a 1.6-litre petrol engine (instead of the present 1.8-litre engine) in April 2011. The new Toyota Corolla Altis will likely be priced in the range of Rs. 8.5 lakh – Rs. 10 lakh to take on Honda City.
The smaller 1.6 litre Valvematic petrol engine could feature on the base variants to compete with Honda City while the top-end will continue with the existing 1.8-liter engine. The face-lifts also include a new front bumper, larger grille and redesigned tail lamps.
The 1.6-litre petrol engine that Toyota will introduce in the new Corolla Altis will produce 120 bhp of maximum power and will sell alongside the existing variants with a 1.8-litre petrol and 1.4 litre diesel engine. It must be noted that the Toyota Corolla Altis, with the 1.6-litre petrol engine, is the most sold variant in markets abroad.
Toyota wants to capitalize on the demand for its Etios sedan which was launched in December 2010.
