Photos- Tata Nano Spied Testing

Motorbeam.com has managed some spy photos of Tata Nano’s Diesel variant. The car was spotted testing on Mumbai-Pune highway. According to earlier reports, Tata Nano diesel was to be launched in September 2011, but, later some sources confirmed that it will be launched very soon.

The engine, developed by Tata Motors and Bosch, was initially expected to be in the 600 cc – 700 cc range, as with the current petrol Nano. But in January 2011, some reports suggested that Bosch was developing a 1.1-litre common rail motor for the Nano diesel. Bosch Automotive Group Chairman Bernd Bohr had then said that his company was partnering with Tata Motors to build the starter, the front drum-brakes and the rear drum-brakes, the alternator, and the fuel-injection system.

The diesel Nano will be the smallest and cheapest diesel car in the market and sport a sub-1000 cc engine, but with output and performance 20-30% better than is usual for that engine size, sources said.

The diesel Nano, which was to have debuted immediately after the petrol versions, got delayed on account of moving the car’s mother plant from Singur to Sanand in Gujarat.
