According to data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), India’s largest automobile company Tata Motors has started export of its small wonder Nano to overseas market. The report says that the company has sent 498 units abroad in April 2011. But, it has not revealed the list of the countries in which Tata Nano has been dispatched last month. A formal announcement of starting exports of Tata Nano will be made soon.
“We will make an announcement regarding exports of Nano very shortly,” a Tata Motors spokesperson said. “For various reasons, we need to send out the cars. If we want to market and sell a car tomorrow, then it cannot be started immediately tomorrow,” he added.
As per last year’s statements of Tata group they are at the final stage of selecting a site for the production of Nano cars which can be in Latin America, South East Asia or Africa.
The Managing Director of Tata industries Mr Kishore A Chaukar said that as they are at the final stage they need to select a place where supply of components is easy. They consider Latin America, South East Asia and Africa as key regions where their will be a supply chain of components along with a local and accessible market. Apart from this the company was also looking out possibilities in the neighbouring countries. They explored Nepal to be production site as well.
