German luxury car maker BMW is all set to launch its new 2012 1-series hatchback in September for international market. The car code-named F20 is expected a year later in the second half of 2012, AutocarIndia reported. 2012 BMW 1-series will be officially introduced at Frankfurt Auto Show 2011 in September.
The 1-series is the smallest (and cheapest) BMW in the range which is why the company sees great potential for its all-new five-door hatchback in the Indian market. The other luxusry car makers from Germany are also planning to launch cheap luxurious hatchback in India soon. Mercedes-Benz has already confirmed the launch of A and B class for the Indian market. Audi is also planning A1 hatchback.
Reports suggest that once the BMW 1 Series comes to India it is going to be priced somewhere in the range of Rs 14 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. Initially BMW 116i and the cheapest diesel version 116d are expected to arrive followed by the frugal 116d ED.
BMW 116i comes with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit that is able to deliver 136 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque being able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8,5 seconds. The top speed of the model is 210 km/h while the average fuel consumption spins around 5,5 liters/100 km.
On the other hand the diesel version base model 116d outputs 116bhp, the 118d is a 143bhp car while the 120d outputs 184bhp. The suspension of the 1 Series uses more aluminum making the car sturdy and light in weight.
All the BMW 1 Series cars are rear wheel driven and come with a six speed transmission gear box.
