The upcoming Hyundai HA small car has been christened as Eon, according to a report by Autocar India editor Hormazd Sorabjee. The car has been spotted testing around Chennai few times, hinting at possible launch very soon. Hyundai Eon will compete with Maruti Suzuki Alto & Chevrolet Spark with a price tag of under Rs 3 lakh.
Eon, which means an ‘indefinitely long period of time’ suggests that this car is slated for a long innings in Indian market. Hyundai is targeting sales of 15,000 units or more per month with the new car.
The new car will be powered by a three-cylinder 800cc engine, expected to develop around 50bhp. Hyundai would try to tune the engine for mileage and get a high a fuel efficiency rating from ARAI for this car to trump the Alto, which is a fuel efficiency champ in India for petrol cars.
The EON will be more spacious from the inside than the Alto. The Eon is expected to go on sale this October as festive season hits India.
