The second high-profile launch of the day after 2011 Volkswagen Jetta! Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has today officially launched the most awaited new 2011 Swift for an introductory price of Rs 4.22 lakh for basic petrol variant. The diesel variant’s price starts from Rs 5.17 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). There will be a total of six variants, three in petrol and three in diesel.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki said, “We have launched the new Swift at a time when there was significant demand for the outgoing model. In keeping with the Swift’s iconic status, we had to ensure that the brand continues to offer the latest and the best in terms of features, design, performance and aspiration. I am confident that the new Swift will create new benchmarks with its improved fuel efficiency, stylish & sportier looks and high performance.”
2011 Maruti Suzuki Engine Specifications:
The engines from the outgoing Swift have been carried over to the new car, essentially the K-Series 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engines. The 1197cc petrol engine now comes with Variable Valve Timing which generates 87PS @ 6000rpm and a torque of 114Nm at 4000rpm whereas the 1248cc DDiS diesel engine remains the same and offers 75PS @ 4000rpm and a torque of 190Nm @ 2000rpm. Both versions comes with 5-speed gearboxes that are different from the outgoing version’s transmission.

Design & Interiors:
2011 Maruti Swift has longer frame and the new headlights and taillights that flutter a stretched look. The interior features include a CD player, USB port connectivity, steering mounted controls and an in dash multi information display (MID), all of which presents itself with a far more upmarket feel. However, the absence of a Bluetooth interface will be sorely missed on this new car.
