Two of India’s largest car maker after Maruti Suzuki have reported drop in their sales for July 2011. The country’s second-largest car-maker Hyundai Motor India today reported a 1.48 per cent decline in total sales, while Tata Motors reported cumulative sales down by 6 per cent in July 2011.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) sold 49,667 units last month compare to 50,411 units sold in the July 2010. In the domestic market, the company’s sales decreased 11 per cent to 25,642 units from 28,811 units in same month last year, the company said in a statement.
Exports of the company increased 11.23 per cent during the month under review to 24,025 units from 21,600 units in the year-ago period, the statement added.
Segment-wise sales in July were led by the hacthback A2 segment, including Santro, i10 and i20, whose sales stood at 41,533 units. Sales of A3 sedan segment Accent and Verna stood at 7,980 units; A5 luxury sedan segment Sonata Transform at 13 units; and sports utility vehicle ( SUV)) Santa Fe at 141 units.
Indian automobile giant Tata Motors 63,761 units last month compare to 67,800 units sold in July 2010. Cumulative sales for the fiscal grew by four per cent at 256,799 units, over 247,381 units sold in the like period of last year.
Tata Nano’s sales stood at 3,260 units during the month, down 64 per cent. The ‘Indica’ range reported sales of 5,860 units, down 32 per cent vis-a-vis July, 2010, Tata Motors said.
In addition, the ‘Indigo’ family recorded sales of 4,877 units, a decrease of 30 per cent in comparison to the same month last year. Sales of ‘Sumo’, ‘Safari’ and ‘Aria’ fell by 2 per cent to 3,195 units.
