The second biggest two-wheeler manufacturer in the country, Bajaj Auto registered a 16% increase in sales during the month of August 2011 with overall sales of 3.82 lakh units as against 3.29 lakh units during the corresponding period of 2010.
Motorcycle sales stood at 3,38,054 units during the month as against 2,89,176 in August last year, translating into a 17 per cent jump. This again was the highest sales registered by this segment in a month.
The company said commercial vehicle sales amounted to 44,685 units last month as against 40,188 units in the same period last year, up 11 per cent.
Exports grew by 40 per cent during August this year to 138,225 units from 98,578 units in the same month last year, it said.
According to the company, the Pulsar and Discover brands added 85% of the motorcycle sales with the firm having the highest ever motorcycle sales during a month.
The company has just rolled out the Boxer for the rustic markets, and this bike is likely to add to the motorcycle sales figures by the coming months.
Moreover, the company stated that it expects to sell more than four million units in the existing financial year (2011-12).
Bajaj Auto General Manager (Marketing and Sales) Chandrasekar R said that the company anticipates selling more than four million units of vehicles this fiscal.
“The impact in the passenger car business was because of the increase in interest rates and fuel price. If a car owner feels the pinch of it, then two-wheelers always come as an option.. and that is why there is no impact in the two-wheeler business…,” he added.
