Honda Recalls 72,000 City Sedan To Replace Window Switch

If you drive a Honda City sedan manufactured between 2005 and 2007, then your power window switch will soon be replaced by the company for free as a ‘preventive’ worldwide initiative. Japanese auto major Honda Motor Co. plans to call back 72,115 units of its City sedan car in India to replace a faulty power window switch. In January 2010, the company had recalled 8,532 units of the same second-generation City, manufactured in 2007, to replace the same power window switch.

The switch is being replaced to prevent any malfunctioning though no accidents have been reported because of it anywhere in the world so far, Honda Siel Cars India said. Effectively, Honda will ‘recall’ 72,115 Citys made between 2005 and 2007, making it the largest such exercise in India by an auto maker.

Jnaneswar Sen, senior VP, sales & marketing, HSCI, told Economic Times: “Every time we have done a recall or product upgradation, we have done it proactively.” The replacement would be carried out free of cost and car owners would be contacted by the company.

The dealerships have been updated about the replacement and the new part is being dispatched to the dealerships in phases for smooth execution, the company said in a statement. The company official added that the cost will be borne by Honda Motor Company (HMC), and there is no loss incurred at the Indian subsidiary. The required number of parts will be imported from Japan in batches.
