Yamaha Launches Two R15 Special Editions

India Yamaha Motor launched two special editions of its highly acclaimed bike R15- WGP 50th Anniversary Edition and Fiery Red Edition. The two models were unveiled last month at the Delhi Auto Expo 201. Both editions will be produced in limited numbers.

Yamaha have no made ant technical changes in these bikes. The engines and features in WGP 50th Anniversary and Fiery Red is same that powers Yamaha R15 v2.0. It’s just the colour scheme that has seen a change.

The WGP 50^th Anniversary Edition comes with White and Red racing color specially made for celebrating Yamaha’s 50th Anniversary of Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix.

The Fiery Red scheme is engulfed by fire flame design in form of graphics which begins flowing right from the front fairing and continues its flow till the rear.

The R15 50th Anniversary Limited Edition model will be available at Rs. 1,11,000 /- and the Limited Edition Fiery Red model will be available at Rs. 1,10,000/- (Both prices are ex-showroom Delhi).

Bajaj To Launch Pulsar 350 & KTM 690 In Coming Years

The second largest two wheeler maker in the country, Bajaj Auto, is planing to launch bigger engine capacity Pulsar and KTM bikes in India in upcoming years. Bajaj will launch bigger and more powerful Pulsar and KTM motorcycle models in the 200cc to 700cc range over the next few years to build a strong position in premium motorcycle segment, currently dominated by Japanese players- Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki.

“We share the same development process with KTM, so you can expect there will be ‘a much bigger Pulsar’ next year, because we think the market is at an inflection point (at the premium end) and we are in a good position to take advantage with these two brands,” managing director Rajiv Bajaj said.

Bajaj and KTM share same R&D process, so if there will be a 350cc Duke next year, you can expect something similar with the Pulsar next year. And in 2014-15 there will be even bigger KTM and even bigger Pulsar.

Bajaj launched KTM Duke 200 last month with a price tag of Rs 1.16 lakh. The company also unveiled Pulsar 200NS (naked sport), which will compete against Yamaha R15 and Honda CBR 250R. The motorcycle is likely to be priced below Rs 1 lakh.

Both motorcycles have been jointly developed by Bajaj and KTM. The two companies are likely to jointly bring in 350cc and 690cc motorcycles under the Bajaj banner over the next few years. The joint R&D for vehicle and engine development will help the company to maintain the cost.

So the story is clear the Indian biking scene will soon receive the KTM Duke 350 (En 2012 or Early 2013), Bajaj Pulsar 350 (Early 2013), KTM Duke 690 (2014-2015).

The company is gearing up with the capacity of 1 00,000 units at its Chakan plant to cater the new range of Pulsars and KTM motorcycles. The next generation Pulsar motorcycles (200cc, 350 cc and above) will co-exist with the current range of Pulsars.

Audi To Expand Production By Setting-up New Assembly Line At Aurangabad

German luxury car maker Audi is going to set up a new assembly line in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The new facility will will start producing company’s Sports Utility Vehicles Q7 and Q3 by the end of 2012, ramping up Audi’s capacity to 8,000 units. Currently, Audi assemble the A4, A6 and Q5 models at Aurangabad plant while it imports A8, A8L, Q7 and R8.

Micheal Perschke, head, Audi India, said, “Audi Q3 will be our bread and butter and the key product which will drive our growth in 2012. We will bring in one game changing model every year for the next few years.”

Audi has registered tremendous growth in India in last year selling record 5,511 units. The numbers are 80 per cent higher than 2010. Now, the company’s focus is on expanding reach and portfolio of Audi.

The Audi Q3 which was unveiled at the last month’s Delhi Auto Expo is likely to be priced in the 25-30 lakh range. It will take on both BMW X1 and MINI variants, besides Mercedes-Benz B-Class once it is launched.

The company is likely to launch the TT model in the first quarter. This will be followed by the new A4, considered a volume puller for Audi. It has also lined up the S6 and three other models for launch this year.

Audi plans to expand its reach by entering smaller cities like Nagpur, Bhopal, Lucknow and Goa.

Maruti Suzuki To Launch More Diesel Models

This was inevitable! India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki, is shifting its focus on diesel run models due to high demand for such cars. The company which is under pressure for last six months due to falling sales figures is planning to launch more diesel-run models in the country as buyers prefer them due to low diesel prices.

Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and Chief Executive, Maruti Suzuki said that the company’s market share has slipped to 40 per cent in 2011 due to slowdown in the industry and lower sales of petrol models compared to diesel car production.

So, this year Maruti Suzuki will now focus on producing more diesel models. The company will be able to produce 300,000 diesel engines a year through Suzuki Powertrain, a joint venture between Maruti and Suzuki Motor’s Gurgaon unit.

Maruti will also buy up to 100,000 diesel engines annually for three years from Fiat India under a pact between the Italian car-maker and Maruti’s parent Suzuki Motor Corp. This is expected to help the company produce more diesel cars.

Maruti has witnessed a turnaround in monthly sales after seven consecutive months of decline with a 5.18 per cent increase in sales to 1,15,433 units in January 2012. It sold 1,09,743 units in the same month last year. Last December, its sales had declined by 7.1 per cent to 92,161 units.

Audi India Sales Up 39% In January

German luxury car maker Audi reported 39 per cent over growth in sales in India during January 2012 at 667 units. The company said it had sold 480 units in the same month last year. The luxury carmaker had ended 2011 with a record sales of 5,511 units, a jump of 84 per cent over 2010.

“Despite the current market condition, we aim to sell 8,000 cars in India in 2012 and with the new year beginning on a strong note, we are confident of achieving this target,” Audi India Head Michael Perschke said in a statement.

Attributing the growth to a “strong brand pull” that the company has in the Indian market, he said: “Our focus this year will continue to be on expansion of our dealership network and introduction of an exciting product line, including the new Audi TT and the Audi Q3 later this year.”

Honda Motorcycle Sales Rises 47%; TVS Motor Up 5% In January

Two—wheeler manufacturer Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) reported 46.66 per cent growth in its total sales for January2012, while two- and three-wheeler maker TVS Motor Company grew by 5 percent in the same month.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India sold 1,89,353 units last month. The company’s total sales stood at 1,29,110 units in the corresponding month of the previous year, HMSI said in a statement.

Motorcycle sales jumped 31.67 per cent to 76,850 units in January this year as against 58,365 units in January 2011, it added. The company reported an increase of 59.03 per cent in its scooter sales to 1,12,503 units from 70,745 units in January 2011.

TVS Motor Company said it had sold 173,514 units (171,112 two-wheelers and 2,402 three-wheelers) last month, up from 165,152 units (two-wheelers 161,725 and three-wheelers 3,427) sold in January 2011.

Within the two-wheeler segment, TVS Motor’s sales of motorcycles last month was lower by 2,113 units as compared to 67,721 units sold in January 2011. However, the company’s sales of scooters and mopeds saw growth. TVS Motor sold 41,469 scooters and 66,437 mopeds last month as against 40,736 scooters and 56,695 mopeds sold in January 2011.

The company’s total exports last month came down to 18,610 units (two-wheelers 18,008, three wheelers 602) against 21,224 units (two-wheelers 19,498, three-wheelers 1,726) in the same month of the previous year.

Bajaj Two-Wheeler January Sales Up 7%

The country’s second largest two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto reported 6.83 per cent increase in its motorcycle sales in January 2012 at 2,94,439 units, the highest ever for the month. The company had sold 2,75,622 units in the corresponding month last year, the company said in a statement.

Bajaj Auto Ltd. (BAL) reported an 8 percent increase in over-all sales, comprising both two-wheelers and commercial vehicles, for the month of January, which rose to 337,000 units from 313,583 units in the like period of last year.

BAL said exports grew 13.01 per cent during the month at 1,16,996 units compared to 1,03,526 units in January 2011.

In the three-wheeler category, company said its sales stood at 43,436 units as against 37,961 units in the same month last year, registering a jump of 14.42 per cent.

Total vehicle sales of the company in the last month stood at 3,37,875 units compared to 3,13,583 units in the same period a year ago, a growth of 7.75 per cent, the statement said.

Hero MotoCorp Reports Sales Hike Of 11.52% In January

Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, has further consolidated its leadership position in the country by once again reporting five-lakh-plus monthly sales to open the New Year 2012. HMCL reported 5,20,272 unit sales for the month of January 2012, a growth of 11.5 per cent over the corresponding month of previous year when it had sold 4,66,524 units.

The cumulative sales of the company in the period April’11–January’12, has now risen to 51,83,440 units, a 17.4% growth over the corresponding period (April’10–January’11) when the company had sold 44,14,537 units.

“We have made a good beginning to the new year with our January performance. We are pleased with the trend of five lakh-plus unit sales every month for the past six months and we are confident of building further on these numbers,” Hero MotoCorp Senior Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) Anil Dua said.

“We showcased our new range at the recently-concluded Auto Expo in Delhi. While many of these will be launched in the market in a phased manner, the scooter segment will be seeing immediate action with the launch of our 110cc masculine scooter Maestro soon,” he added.

Toyota Kirloskar Sales Up 89% In January

Japanese car maker Toyota Motor reported an 89.34 per cent increase in sales in India to 17,395 units in January 2012, driven by robust demand for its latest ‘Etios’ and ‘Liva’ models. The company, present in India through joint venture as Toyota Kirloskar Motor, sold 9,187 units in the corresponding month last year, it said in a statement.

“It’s been a good start to the year with a robust growth. We are happy with the response to the Etios series, the new Innova and the new Fortuner,” TKM Deputy Managing Director (Marketing) Sandeep Singh said.

An increase in plant capacity has helped the firm cater to demand for its vehicles, facilitating higher sales last month, he added.

“We expect to see a further growth in Fortuner sales with an increase in its production from this month onward,” Singh said without sharing details.

The company sold 4,844 units of the Etios sedan and 4,030 units of the Liva hatchback last month. It also sold 6,794 units of the new version of multi-utility vehicle Innova, besides 941 units of the new Fortuner SUV.

Luxury sedan Corolla Altis contributed to the sales tally with 785 units, TKM said.

Nissan India Posts 178% Increase In January Sales

Nissan Motor India, the subsidiary of Japanese Nissan Motor, registered a nearly three-fold jump in total sales to 5,168 units in January 2012. The number is 178 per cent more than what the company sold in January 2011 when the figure was 1,857 units, the company said in a statement.

Nissan Sunny is getting popular with Indian buyers

The company’s compact car Micra recorded sales of 1,855 units, while sedan Sunny accounted for 3,218 units.

“Breaking the 5,000 sales-mark after only 20 months of operation, is a milestone in our continuing development in what is one of Nissan’s most strategically important markets,” NMIPL Managing Director Kiminobu Tokuyama said.
