We have seen the cheapest Indian car Tata Nano going in flames. But, now one of the costliest sports car from Ferrari is burning in fire too. After reports about the new 458 Italia going up in flames started circulating the world over, Ferrari reacted as fast as they can. Five 458?s have been reported to have been burned to ashes since their launch.
Incidents of burning Ferrari 458 Italia Sports Cars have been reported in California, Paris, China and Switzerland. And now the company has confirmed that it is recalling all 458 Italia models. Ferrari has determined the cause of the fire caused in the sports cars was related to the glue that attached the heat shield under the rear fenders.
These heat shields were attached with an adhesive and became flammable under high temperature. Apparently when the 458 is driven like the way a Ferrari is supposed to be driven, like a little hard, in high ambient temperatures, the adhesive that holds the rear wheel arch in place, gets overheated and melts. As a result, the wheel arch and heat shields come loose. Later the glue or the heat shields can ignite, causing the car to catch fire.
These incidents in particular, have been embarrassing for Ferrari since, the new £170,000 sports car has just been in production for about 6 months or so.
