The popular Italian car maker, Fiat S.p.A. is thinking about launching Chrysler brand in India very soon to increase Fiat’s presence in the country. The company which is largest share holder of US car maker Chrysler, may bring Chrysler’s cult SUV- Jeep. Fiat is also planning to launch its own premium brand Alfa Romeo.
According to some sources, a team of senior officials from Chrysler recently visited India to conduct product clinics for the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The SUV is in a price segment similar to that of Toyota Fortuner, Ssangyong Rexton and Ford Endeavour.
The blueprint is currently being created to expand the Fiat’s presence in the Indian car market with brand new range of car models and if these plans go well then the new launches will not be included in the 50-50 collaboration of Fiat and Tata Motors.
The Chrysler model will be brought into the country in completely-knocked-down (CKD) condition and assembled at the Tata-Fiat manufacturing operations in Ranjangaon, near Pune, on contract.
The Alfa Romeo will be brought in via the CBU (completely built unit) route.
