With Utility Vehicle segment getting new players, existing one are trying to protect their market share either with upgrade or total new car launch. We reported earlier that, Tata Aria has become no. 2 car in the utility segment with Toyota’s Fortuner still on the top. That means Aria has infiltrate Mahindra’s market pie. But, Mahindra is not going to keep quite for long time. In fact the largest utility maker company in India has planned attack of three new SUVs launch in the market in 2011. As per the sources, the three SUVs will be Mahindra global SUV code named W 201, plus Rexton and Korando from Ssangyong Motors.
Mahindra’s share in the utility market is still 65%, but, with competition coming from international brands, the company has pulled-up its socks. These new utility vehicles will be priced from Rs 12 – 20 lakhs. Mahindra plans to introduce a compact Mahindra Xylo in the coming year. Other than this, Mahindra will also launch the revamped version of its popular car models such as new Mahindra Scorpio on “monocoque” platform and also a newer version o Mahindra Bolero
“This year we aim to add around 8-10 new products, including new models on the existing platforms. We will also increase our SUV range to Rs 18-20 lakh from Rs 11-12 lakh with the addition of three new products,” said Dr Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra.
Good news for the off-roader goers is that Mahindra will introduce branding activities with the new “Adventure” team within the company to design new off-road event concepts for customer clubs. “We’re trying to use Adventure for branding since Mahindra is ‘the’ off-road carmaker in India. The Great Escape is one such thing where we will increase the frequency of events to 20 per year from the current 8-10 a year,” said Dr Goenka.
