kalpesh Yamaha Motor India has launched 2011 R15 last week which is called Yamaha R15 Version 2.0. The new bike is priced at Rs 1.07 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Yamaha R15 has been inspired from Yamaha YZF-R6 sports bike and looks more attractive than the predecessor.
The launch has dissapointed many as Yamaha have not made any changes to the bike’s performance, coming with the same engine which was on earlier version. Basically, the new R15 is a cosmetic makeover job at best.
The most significant change is in the rear of the bike which was criticized by many for its skinny look. The rear tyre is 130 mm wide now (it was 100mn in earlier version). The rear turn indicators and the number plate now rest above the rear wheel in a floating assembly.
The rear LED tail lamp is another brand new item on the new R15. Also, the swing arm has been upgraded to a wider aluminum itemaccommodate the wider rear tyre. This apart, the alloy wheels get a ten spoked design while the engine gets a black coating. The front end though, remains unchanged.
The aerodynamics on the new bike has improved by 4%. The riding stance has become sportier compared to the earlier model.
The liquid cooled, 4 valve 150cc engine, remains unchanged with a peak power output of 17 Bhp at 8,500 rpm and 15 Nm at 7,500 rpm.
