Tata Nano Enters Sri Lanka As Taxi Service

Our Asian neaighbour have done it before we could. A Sri Lanka based company has introduced Tata Nano, the world’s cheapest car, as a taxi sevice. The company launched the service as an alternative to expensive air conditioned taxis, but more comfortable than the three-wheel taxi.

The company which is calledd Nano Cabs Private Limited was jointly founded by the Deputy Chairman of the Nawaloka Hospitals, Jayantha Dharmadasa and his brother-in-law Anura Gunadasa.

“We launched with 25 cars and hope to raise the fleet to 200 before the end of this year,” co-founder of NanoCabs, Jayantha Dharmadasa said.

According to a statement by the company, Nano Cabs Pvt Ltd. aims to shift the paradigm of transport in Sri Lanka to a new level, making travel safer, secure and economical, to the general public.

Although Tata Nano costs just over $3,000 in India, the same car costs over $8,500 in Sri Lanka because of high local taxes.
